Reference Names

An asset can be assigned a reference name. This name can be assigned by the system or by a user. The reference name provides a means of referencing an asset within an asset hierarchy. One can also search against a reference name.

A reference name has to be unique within a collection of child assets. If a job runs that attempts to create a new child asset with a reference name that is not unique within a collection of child assets, the job will fail.

Referencing Assets in a Hierarchy

When working with assets in the context of workflows and jobs, it is often necessary to reference a particular asset within an asset hierarchy. For example, within a workflow, you may wish to halt working on a source asset and instead reference a specific child asset. A full description of the syntax is provided in the asset context syntax section.
