Packages Management
Dalet Flex relying on Ubuntu, it is possible to customize its deployment by adding various extra packages (through automation).
This can be useful for example to:
- ensure all instances have the same tools and configuration.
- extend serviceability and troubleshooting with additional tools.
- install third-party security or monitoring agents, to comply with your corporate policy rules.
This can be easily done by extending the ansible/vars/variables.yml file with the following variable:
dalet_baseos_packages_list_custom:
- my_super_package
- yet_another_agent
Another key aspect from packages management comes with upgrades. Even when using an LTS release, OS packages updates are frequent. Every day comes with updated package versions, adding minor features or fixing some bugs.
It's always tempting to use the latest software releases to benefit from those, but this may involve the given application to restart, even if only for a couple seconds, which can lead to possible service interruption if not properly backed.
Thew following variable:
dalet_baseos_packages_enforced_upgrade: false
can be turned on to defines whether OS packages must be upgraded at play or kept to present version.
This is not an automatic upgrade.
It only takes place when Ansible is being run, which can be part of a planned maintenance.
