Ansible
Dalet chose Ansible as its reference implementation for CasC. Ansible is industry-standard and allows for simple, yet exhaustive and durable description of tasks to be executed for software installation and maintenance automation.
Supported Hosts
Flex deployment and administration requires a UNIX-compatible system. At present time, officially tested and supported desktop configurations are:
- MacOS (with Apple Silicon ARM64 architecture)
- Ubuntu Linux LTS 24.04+ (AMD64 and ARM64 architectures).
Installation
Ansible's installation can be done through 2 distinctives way:
- Through OpsCtl (recommended procedure).
- Through manual installation.
Manual installation on MacOS
This requires prior installation of Homebrew package manager.
Once available, Terraform can be installed through:
Manual Installation on Ubuntu Linux
This requires administrative (i.e. root) privileges.
Usage
Deployments through Ansible works by concurrently running various tasks over server instances, through SSH remote connection. It is then essential for the host running Ansible to use an SSH private key that is trusted by the server instances to be targeted.
